USD/MXN soars amid Greece

FXStreet (Córdoba) – The Mexican peso was the worst performer on Monday among Latin-American currencies. USD/MXN ended on Friday around 15.55 and it opened the week around 15.68.

The pair rose to test the 15.70 area but failed to break. It was trading at 15.694, more than 1% higher for the previous session.

The Mexican stock market is falling 1.57%. In Brasil the Bovespa is down 2% and in Argentina the Merval losses 2.50%. In the US, Wall Street accelerated to the downside during the last hours and now the Dow Jones is falling 1.65% and the Nasdaq more than 2%.

The Greek crisis triggered risk aversion that affected stocks around the globe and also boosted the US dollar. While European currencies were able to erase losses versus the US dollar, the Mexican peso remains in negative territory, headed toward the second lowest close ever.
